READ: James1:1-8
OBSERVE:
What should we do when we go through trials?
What does the trial, or testing produce?
What happens when we let that patience, steadfastness, or endurance grow?
What is something we must ask God for when we are going through difficulties? What is God's response?
How should we ask?
What happens to the person who asks while doubting?
DISCOVER:
In the Bible, wisdom is not merely knowing what is right. It is the ability to view life from God’s perspective and respond in a way that honors Him. Why do you think James invites us to ask for wisdom instead of asking for trials to go away?
It is important to remember that James is writing to Jewish believers who were being persecuted and enduring great trials. Therefore, when he addresses them in James 1:2-8, he is not speaking theoretically; rather, he is speaking to people who were truly suffering and needed to ask for wisdom and trust in God.
Let’s go a little deeper: Let’s read 1 Peter 1:6-7, What stands out to you most when reading this passage? How are they similar?
LIVE IT OUT:
Think of a difficult time you have gone through. Looking back, how did it strengthen your faith? Or, what difficult situation are you facing today where you need God's wisdom?
What do you think God might be shaping in your life through this season or situation?
How do our trials reveal what we truly trust in?
What specific change is God inviting you to make after studying the GPS today?
TRUTH TO REMEMBER!:
“God uses trials to help our faith grow.”
But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. - James 1:22
