Let’s read Ephesians 4:22–24
QUESTIONS FOR REFLECTION:
What examples of the “old way of life” do we see today?
What old habits or attitudes are hard to let go of?
Why do you think Paul speaks of “deception”?
Which of these three steps is hardest for you: leave, renewing, or putting on?
What does “renewing your mind” mean to you?
What does a person dressed in the new self look like?
What specific decision can you make today?
What habit can you change this week?
How can you remind yourself daily of your new identity?
Even though we are children of God, sometimes:
We react with anger
We think negatively
We fall back into old habits
This illustrates the struggle between the old and the new. Keep in mind that: The old self does not disappear automatically… it must be consciously put to death every day.
In conclusion:
The new self is the new spiritual life that God creates within us when we are born again in Christ. It is CHRIST within us, who lives and grows every day through the Holy Spirit. It is not just a personal change, but also a transformation within the community, because together we form the body of Christ.
The Bible explains it as changing clothes: we put off the old self and put on Christ, living in accordance with his character. The new self is the life of Christ within us, which is renewed every day and reflected in how we live.
